Washington Ave Area

The Houston Heights area has two major access through-fares which includes Washington Avenue and the one-way Shepherd/Durham Drives.

The Bars

Washington Avenue is more popular with visitors to the area. It carries the bulk of the foot traffic in the area. This historic street is going through a renaisance after falling into a state of ignored disrepair.

The major draw has been the many new night clubs and eateries that have opened in the area over the past view years. Many people think this is just a step to more serious development in the future.

Other Commercial

With a Target store asn it's anchor, Sawyer Heights shopping center has been an eye-catching success. The major complaint has been that these type developments around big box stores do not incorporate urban friendly design. Parking lots eat up valuable land, include minimal landscaping and attracks vehicular traffic and noise.

Retail development echoes most recently has been the focus around a new Walmart and shopping center. While that development is still pending another development of shops just down the street has kicked off and is well pass frame-up.
